Activities/Attractions: Cetona, a delightful little village in the province of Siena, situated at the foot of a mountain bearing the same name and dominating it from the west. Viewed from a distance and from any angle, the town looks like a cone with houses stacked together around its sides and at the top a crest of cypress and pine trees, crowning the once forbidding 12th century fortress, now a silent and majestic witness to the innumerable events in which the people of Cetona were primary protagonists.
Around the fortress, the attentive visitor will be able to discern traces of the two highest town walls, and just below, the Collegiate Church, a prestigious 13th century building containing noteworthy paintings including one attributed to Pinturicchio (1454-1513).
Thanks to its geographical location halfway between Florence and Rome on the motorway “Autostrada del Sole”, its fascinating structure and typically medieval design, the beauty of the surrounding countryside, resembling a Renaissance landscape oil painting, Cetona has been chosen as home to well known personalities from the world of culture and art.
General Information: Padre Eligio's "La Frateria" has been created in one of the most beautiful monuments made by man, the convent of Saint Francis, founded by the Saint in 1212, an example of late middle ages convent life, still intact. All the great Saints, disciples of Saint Francis, have passed through this place, remarkable for its peacefulness, the marvels of the woods, fields and valleys of ancient Tuscia.
The old cells, elegantly restored and furnished with period pieces, retain their perfume and antique atmosphere and yet offer all the comforts that today’s traveller may require. But don’t expect a television. It’s useless to look for it. There isn’t one.

In our onsite restaurant, we dine on linen table cloths, the menu is hand written and the dishes inspired by the seasons, the fantasy of the chef, the fragrance of the vegetables and the produce of the convent: Oven baked bread, olive and caper patè, preserves, salted meats, extra virgin olive oil milled by the young people using old stone millstones.
